This week I got a significant amount of work done in the past classes and small studio time. My sculpture is nearly complete as I have finished all the major tasks or projects of my sculpture such as making 2 half balls for two side of my chair, painting the chair and the white boards nailed to my chair, nailed and hot glueing cardboard pieces to my chair, and creating a texture for my soccer pitch grass. I believe that I will be finish before time and have significant time to make adjustments to my sculpture design if something goes wrong. My five week plan has greatly improve my work rate and kept me up to date with my sculpture deadlines and studio time. Ny chair starting to take shape of my initial idea that I drew on an A4 paper which is a great relieve as I believed that my sculpture would be a fail as it is my first time producing my very own unique sculpture piece but to my surprise I am succeeding in my task but I couldn’t have reach this stage without help and tips from my teacher and friends. All I have to do now is to paint my final sides with my 2 half balls, hot glue my field to the chair with the texture grass and soccer field details and make an artistic chair top rest that resemble soccer pitch lights that shine towards the field. With two weeks I believe that my sculpture will be ready and finish.
This week I was able to stay on track with my 5 week plan by working on my Crowd Stand in class by finding what colors I should use and stay after school to complete all the hard hammering work for my chair and cutting the extra white board to place on all bottom sides of my chair. Next is to find a circular like object such as a ball to make the half soccer balls that I will hot glue to the sides after using plaster to make the circular shape hard. I shall find a way to place my Crowd Stand and Score Board on my stadium the next week by searching some new ideas online and getting tips from friends. The only challenges I faced during this week is that I struggled to hammer my white woods to cover all four sides of my chair because occasionally the nail would become skew at the very last stage of the hammering which destroyed the perfect hole created to hold the nail and white wood in place. My Chair Stadium in going to look great as I see it, It is starting to take on shape.
This is my final piece for my sculpture, which is a soccer stadium with stands for fans, 1 soccer ball on both long sides of my chair with a score board on the right, on top of the stands. I chose this theme because I love football, MY LIFE IS DRIVEN BY MY PASSION FOR FOOTBALL!
In sculpting class, Mrs. R, Jardin asked us to create a 5 week plan of what we are going to do and when we will be able to do it. This plan should be strictly followed to avoid getting left behind from not knowing what to do. This is my plan and those are the days I will be working on my sculpture.
Week 1: Tuesday 11, February
Working on the overall structure of my stadium with the stands, scoreboard and stairs.
Week 2: Monday 17, Wednesday 19 - After-school, and Thursday 21
Working on covering the whole bottom part of the chair with white thin wood.
Week 3: Tuesday 25, Wednesday 26 - After-school, Thursday 27
Bring a ball from home for the the half soccer ball in will make to put on both sides of the chair.
Week 4: Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5 - After-school
Painting the necessary colors for my stadium.
Week 5: Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 - After-school, Thursday 13
Adding the slight details to my sculpture.
My studio times are going to be mostly after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thurdays because those are the only days I am able to stay after school. I will have the most time to produce good work on these day of the week.
This year in my art sculpting class, we have undertaken a task of creating our own sculpture using these wooden chairs and transforming them into something new and exciting. At the beginning of the class we had to think of themes in various categories in which we could be interested in. We had brainstorming activities, which allowed us to really think wide and spontaneously on our themes but then later we would narrow it down to more easily done ideas. Mrs. R. Jardin started us off with different elements of sculpture such as space, movement, environment, scale, colors, texture, mass etc. These elements built a strong foundation in the process of creating our own unique sculptures. The main requirements for this assessment I believe is our level of quality, creativity and originality of our product which is the chair and that we use many different types of materials used to build, mend and construct the transformed chair.
Many people have questioned and asked experts on their view of this question and many still have no answer to it as there are many perspectives in which I could be answered in such as Religious, Economic, Philosophical and Scientific etc. Many people have conflicting perspectives about the answer to this question, which have brought up seriously debates about our future.
However, I have been able to come to a conclusion through the research I conducted.
At first thought at this question many people without sufficient knowledge suggestions that it is impossible to live in a Cold Less World in the case that there was no conflict, no sadness, no hate however to some extent according to my research they are somewhat correct. My research stated that it is not possible for us to live in a Cold Less World because the world has faced countless conflicts. Some argue this is the inevitable nature of humans and the differences between people will continues to lead to conflict. F. David Peat gave evidence that disagrees with the statement in new his book Gentle Action: Bringing Creative Change to a Turbulent World. Mr. Peat argues that while individuals, organizations or governments take action or give aid, often from the best of motives; it is sometimes the case that such action is disruptive and damaging to a community, economy or environment. Which means that often if people try to do what they think is best for the community, to others it damaging and disruptive because not everyone thinks alike as others may agree with a certain undertaking, there are people who bear different views and believe that things could have gone another way. It is these misunderstandings and different views that cause conflict as F. David Peat stated. He stats that Cold less world would be hard to create due to all the different values and cultures of people throughout the world with makes it hard to relate to someone as some of their behaviors may be strange to us but not to them which brings the uncomfortable among people. Religion is one of the main factors which separate people of today as other religions see things that another religion does which happens to disturb their peace within themselves as it doesn’t seem right to them.
However others believe the world has become more peaceful and in time, a ‘cold-less’ world is possible like Dr. Masaru Emoto who conducted a Rice Experiment that expresses that the words and thoughts we have and say possess physical power that we should use with children as we should take care of them, give them attention and converse with them, Indifference does much more damage and the greatest harm. This works in many different aspects of life. It also coincides with what the bible says. “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21
This quote was quite moving to me and made sense as to why the rices have different effects. This showed us that what we tend to say to one another can be poison in our life and that can cause problems to occur.
These quotes made what F. David Peat said look to an extent wrong and that makes many people confused, making them question their future.
“If you don’t live, eat, sleep and breathe soccer then you’re not a true soccer player, you just wear the jersey.”
